Project overview

Visitor information
for an island eco resort.

Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort sits at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef, and renewable energy plays a significant role in how the island operates. The resort installed two displays: a portrait touchscreen in the foyer where guests can find visitor information, and a landscape outdoor display showing live renewable-energy statistics.

Red Earth designed and built the complete interactive visitor-information presentation and integrated it into Fusion, with display hardware supplied by Metromatics.

The need

Two things to communicate.

Visitor information. Guests arrive wanting to know about the island’s facilities, the experiences on offer and the places worth seeing. Printed signs and brochures can only hold so much, and they date quickly. The resort wanted guests to be able to find that information themselves, at any time.

Sustainability. Renewable energy is a big part of how the island runs. The resort wanted visitors to see its sustainability initiatives at work, not just read about them.

The solution

Two displays, two jobs.

Metromatics supplied two displays, each suited to a different job at the resort.

  1. Visitor-information touchscreen

A portrait 49-inch touchscreen in the resort foyer. Guests browse island facilities, visitor experiences, resort information and points of interest at their own pace, without waiting for staff. Red Earth designed and built the complete interactive presentation and integrated it into Fusion.

  2. Outdoor sustainability display

A landscape 49-inch display outdoors, presenting live statistics from the island’s renewable energy system so visitors can see the resort’s sustainability initiatives in operation. This display is part of the same installation; Red Earth’s work covered the visitor-information presentation.

Our contribution

The complete visitor-information presentation.

Red Earth designed and built the complete interactive visitor-information presentation and integrated it into Fusion, with display hardware supplied by Metromatics.

The presentation opens on an “Explore. Learn. Protect.” start screen over reef imagery, inviting guests to tap anywhere to begin. From there, they can explore island facilities, visitor experiences, resort information and points of interest.

The touchscreen is set into a feature wall in the foyer, beside an interpretive panel about the Great Barrier Reef.

Two 49-inch displays,
readable in bright light.

Metromatics supplied both commercial-grade displays: the portrait touchscreen for the foyer and the landscape display for outdoors. At 1000 nits, they stay readable in bright conditions.
