Digital wayfinding
Digital Wayfinding & Touchscreen Directories
Help visitors find the places and information they need. Red Earth develops digital wayfinding interfaces and touchscreen directories, with display hardware supplied by Metromatics.
Wayfinding and directories
A directory designed
for your destination.
The right interface starts with the people using it. We structure destinations, facilities and visitor information into an experience suited to your venue, precinct or community.
Content management
Content that can be managed.
We can develop a content-management approach around your team and existing systems. This may include a custom portal or connected data, so information can be maintained without redesigning every screen.
Scope
What the project can include.
Maps, route guidance, languages and accessibility requirements are discussed during discovery and agreed for each project.
- Interface and navigation design
- Destination, facility and tenant information
- Touchscreen interactions and content presentation
- Content-management portals and agreed data connections
- Software configuration and testing with the agreed display hardware
Project experience
Wayfinding projects we can draw on.
Frankston and Portside Wharf were delivered under the LaunchPADS name; the Balonne memorial is our own work with Metromatics.
-
Frankston City Council
PADS4 touchscreen wayfinding for activities and destinations across the Frankston region, with a custom web portal so content could be managed remotely. Delivered by LaunchPADS on a touchscreen supplied by Metromatics, 2020.
-
Portside Wharf
A searchable directory for a waterfront retail precinct. LaunchPADS created the content and PADS4 presentation, working with Metromatics, who resolved a hardware issue with the display, 2018.
-
Balonne Shire memorial
A touchscreen kiosk for exploring veteran records, with a custom CMS that staff use to import and update records remotely.

Hardware and software
Metromatics supplies the hardware.
We develop the software.
Metromatics supplies the hardware. Red Earth designs and develops the interface, content tools and software. We can work with Fusion, PADS4 or our own software where appropriate.
How we work
Planning a wayfinding project.
From the people using the directory to the team who keep it current.
-
Understand visitors and destinations
We learn who will use the directory, what they’re looking for and the places, facilities and information it needs to cover.
-
Organise the information
We structure destinations, categories and content so people can find things quickly.
-
Prototype the interface
We design the screens and touch interactions and review them with you before development.
-
Develop the software and content workflow
We build the interface and the way your team will manage content, using Fusion, PADS4 or our own software.
-
Test on the agreed hardware
We test the directory and content on the display hardware agreed for the project.
-
Hand over
We show your team how to keep the directory current and agree ongoing support.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about digital wayfinding.
Can the directory be updated remotely?
It depends on the platform, the connection available on site and the scope we agree. Many projects use a portal or connected data so content can be updated without visiting the screen, and we’ll recommend an approach for yours.
Can it use our existing information?
Often, yes. We’ll look at where your current information lives, such as a website, tenant list or database, and what access is available, then advise how it could feed the directory.
Do you supply the touchscreen?
Metromatics supplies the display hardware; Red Earth develops the interface and software. The proposal sets out each party’s responsibilities.
Can you work with an existing installation?
We can assess the existing hardware and platform and tell you what’s possible. Compatibility depends on the equipment and software already in place.
