Custom software development
Custom Software Development & Integration
Custom software, automation and integrations that remove manual work, connect your systems and fit the way your business really operates.
Software engineering
Software built around
the way you work.
Build software around the way your business works. Red Earth develops custom interfaces, web portals and integrations that connect information and give people practical tools to manage it.
When off-the-shelf software doesn’t fit, or your team is stuck copying data between systems, custom software can close the gap.
Capabilities
Software built for the job, not adapted to it.
From portals and internal tools to the connections between your systems.
-
Web portals and management interfaces
Web-based portals and admin tools for quoting, bookings, job tracking, content and other processes that are unique to your business, designed around the tasks people need to do.
-
Business-system and data-feed integrations
Connecting the software you already use, such as your website, CRM, accounting, booking and inventory systems, or bringing in data feeds from other providers, so information flows where it’s needed.
-
Automation and connected information
Automating repetitive tasks such as data entry, document generation, notifications and reporting, so your team can focus on higher-value work.
-
Digital signage and interactive software
Software, control interfaces and data connections for screens and touchscreens, working with Metromatics, who supply the display hardware.
Signage software and data integration -
APIs
Designing and building APIs that let your systems, apps and partners exchange data securely and reliably.
-
Database systems
Structured databases that replace scattered spreadsheets, with the right permissions, search and reporting built in.
-
System integration and migration
Bringing older systems and new software together, including importing, cleaning and migrating existing data.
-
Maintenance and support
Updates, fixes, security patches and improvements after launch, so your software keeps working as your business changes.
Project experience
Software that meets the real world.
Our experience includes live sports data feeds, display control interfaces, remotely managed visitor information and connections between booking systems and signage. These projects bring software development, interface design and operational requirements together.
For specialist screen projects, see digital signage and interactive digital displays.

Interactive Wayfinding and Content Portal
An interactive visitor-information system combining touchscreen wayfinding with a custom portal for remotely managed content. -
Booking-Connected Signage
A connected signage project using room-booking information to update meeting-room and wayfinding displays automatically.
In practice
A custom CMS for an interactive war memorial.
For the Balonne Shire interactive war memorial, delivered with Metromatics, we built a custom content management system behind a public touchscreen kiosk.
Staff can import records in bulk from an Excel mail merge, and the system handles inactivity resets, timed on and off scheduling and QR codes linking to documents, while preventing open internet browsing. It’s hosted on our servers, so updates can be made remotely.
Engineering principles
How we approach every build.
Good software is about more than working code. It has to be reliable, secure and maintainable for years.
- Requirements agreed before development
- Technology chosen to suit the project
- Security considered from the start
- Role-based access and permissions
- Clean, documented, maintainable code
- Testing at every stage
- Data import and migration planned
- Backups and recovery in place
- Training and handover documentation
- Support available after launch
Development process
From requirements to running software.
A structured process that keeps scope, budget and progress visible throughout.
-
Discovery
We map your current processes, systems and pain points, and define what the software needs to do.
-
Specification
We document the requirements, data, users and integrations, and agree on scope and priorities.
-
Design
We plan the architecture, database and interface, and review screens and workflows with you.
-
Development
We build in stages, sharing working versions regularly so you can test and give feedback.
-
Testing and launch
We test thoroughly, migrate your data, train your team and launch the software.
-
Support
We maintain, update and improve the software as your needs change.
Software and apps
Need it on a phone
as well as a desk?
Many business systems need a mobile front end for staff or customers. Our app development team can build one that works with the same data and the same back end.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about custom software development.
When does custom software make sense?
Custom software is worth considering when off-the-shelf products don’t match your processes, when your team spends hours on manual data entry, or when several systems need to work together. We’ll also tell you if an existing product would do the job.
Can you connect our existing systems?
Often, yes. Many business systems provide APIs or data exports that can be connected. We’ll review what your systems support and recommend the most reliable approach.
Who owns the software?
Ownership and licensing are agreed in writing before development starts, so there are no surprises. We’ll explain the options as part of your proposal.
How much does custom software cost?
It depends on the scope, integrations and complexity. After discovery we provide a clear proposal. Starting with the most valuable features and adding more over time is often the most cost-effective approach.
Do you support the software after launch?
Yes. We offer ongoing maintenance and support, including updates, fixes and new features as your business grows.
