The challenge
One system, many operators.
Kangaroo Island Council’s airport upgrade included a new terminal, completed in March 2018. Its screens had to serve several businesses at once while the airport kept overall control.
According to the project record, Qantas, Rex, Budget and Hertz each had colour themes that couldn’t be altered, and general advertising and TV feeds also needed a common look.
Our contribution
Check-in, flight status and passenger information.
We handled the PADS4 integration for the check-in counter screens and the flight status and passenger-information screens.
We also set up tablet-based control of PADS4, so the screens could be managed from a tablet.
The solution
Shared screens, clear rules.
The project record describes a web-based control portal with user-level security, so each business could edit its own screens. PADS4 combined the feeds from the portal with a set of rules to show each change as required.
Advertising took over automatically when general signage wasn’t in use, and emergency messaging was built into every screen. The screen design used the airport’s “island sparkle” logo.
Outcome
Ready for the
new terminal.
The project record lists the work as completed in April 2018, ahead of the new terminal opening to passengers in July 2018.
